Michael Tam Wood: Staff teacher, Sword teacher and resident ninja. Michael Tam Wood began practicing the martial arts at the age of 10 and has since studied numerous styles ranging from Karate to Ninjitsu, and from animal Kung Fu to Tai Chi. Additionally, the practice of Yoga and experience as an art model have taught him to see the human body as a form of dynamic, living sculpture. Since beginning in instrumental fire~dance five years ago, Michael has had the great fortune to work with world-class instructors and develop proficiency in the use of poi, single & double staff, single & double sword. Beyond skill with any particular tool, and perhaps more importantly, he has learned to see the art~form as an opportunity for anyone to maintain health, increase focus, and ultimately reach creative fulfillment by producing their own unique expression. Recognizing the intimate connection between all things through studies in quantum physics, he came to understand that sharing fire~dance was a powerful way to be of service to society. Through studies in psychology, Michael has gained ultimate respect for the learning process, and provides an environment both encouraging and exciting for students. One of the greatest experiences in his life is sharing with others the limitless potential fire dance for the creation of dynamic form.
